amazing thank you!
I used to use this all the time but then my pentool glitched somehow and it would fill the shape I was making instead of drawing the line.

Damn it. I was browsing through the Photoshop Elements 8.0 forums looking for how to activate the pen tool, but it turns out that my version of Photoshop doesn't come with the pen tool. It has the Lasso tool with similar features, but it doesn't allow for smooth lines like the ones that the pen tool provides. I guess I'm stuck with doing the lines with as steady of a hand as possible.

oh, my have no idea how helpful this was for me! this is the first pen tool tutorial that actually helped me...all the rest of them have a sucky description. i've been using the lasso tool up till now, and it would always look terrible. thank you!!!!!

Harukachan6 Featured By Owner Apr 21, 2011  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
I have a big problem. My Brush tool is 100% hard but when I stroke the path theres always a white line in the black line. I think the white line is the pen tools line or something. it looked like a white scratch in my originally black line that i wanted. Well my English is bad, i'm sorry, but can somone help me out?
Teaholic Featured By Owner Mar 12, 2011
DUDE. You have no idea how stressed I was over that stupid pen tool! Major kudos for making a tutorial simple enough for neophytes for me to follow!

SleepiPanda Featured By Owner Jan 29, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
This is an awesome tutorial. It was extremely helpful. With a little practice, I should be able to draw better.

But what I'm wondering is the brushes that you actually use when they show up when you click "Stroke Path" and then "Brush"

I use CS4 and I can not find those brush settings anywhere and I would really like to have them. Is there anyway you could email me the brush pack or something please?

Great tutorial. Very helpful. Thanks a lot for sharing this
LycorisCrux Featured By Owner Jan 20, 2011

storyboos Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2011  Student Digital Artist
when i go to stroke path then select brush I cant find that thing what makes the lines thicker (like, nothing comes up under it)
lumi-mae Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2011
hum... check if the brush is set to 100% of opacity..
storyboos Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2011  Student Digital Artist
it is
it onlt shows the brushes not the line part
ChuppylikesBEEFjerKy Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2011
Its a good tutorial.. but when i somewhat cant select my brush for the pen tool :(
and when i want it to curve.. it just doesn't curve :((
Its really hard for me! D''X

How did you do it when you first started??
lumi-mae Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2011
hum..... I don't know why it's not curving.. could you please send me a screenshot of it?
ChuppylikesBEEFjerKy Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2011
.. oh nvm, i think it wasn't curving how i want it to; because i press 'Alt'
I was meant to press 'Ctrl'..haha

I just barely started using the pen tool; i'm finding it a little hard to get used to.. i think you had
a vid on youtube; i watched it; u make the pen tool look easy to use! >.<

Thank you so much for this tut, I BADLY needed it.

I have one question, how do you remove the... pen path is it? So you can only see the lineart instead of the lineart and the paths you just made?
lumi-mae Featured By Owner Jan 2, 2011
I don't know if there is a shortcut to hide it, I usually just press enter to clear the path, leaving only the stroke, but if you do that you can't edit it anymore.
StreaksPsyche Featured By Owner Dec 14, 2010
I use it even if I use both mouse and tablet.

My tablet is...a WACOM CTE-430...-_-'
mariafox Featured By Owner Nov 27, 2010
Most of the time, I don't "Stimulate pressure" because I prefer making vectors and controlling the thickness myself. It takes a bit longer, but it's worth it.
akatetrisii Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I don't understand how the *Stimulate Pressure* thing works..
lumi-mae Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2010
it simulates pressures in the middle of the line, so the initial and ending areas of the line are smaller/smooth
akatetrisii Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yes, thank you, I understand that now. I had a dumb moment just then, sorry. XD
